Outer Circle Line doco now in production
We’ve started producing a TV documentary on the Outer Circle Line.
The Outer Circle Line was a steam-era railway that ran through Melbourne’s eastern suburbs in the 1890s. You might have noticed the old brick bridges on Canterbury Road, Mont Albert Road or even the heritage signage along the Anniversary Trail bicycle path.
The Outer Circle Line was doomed to fail before construction even began. Bureaucratic bungling, land speculation, political corruption and an economic depression all contributed to the demise of the railway which only ran for two years in some sections.
Be sure to follow @OuterCircleLine on Twitter as we record this relatively-unknown and misunderstood chapter in Melbourne’s history.
